Subject Spotlight: Sandhill Crane

Despite spending the majority of their lives navigating the open seas, Puffins make a striking appearance on land during the breeding season, creating a spectacle against the rugged backdrop of the North Atlantic.
Atlantic Puffins, also known as “clowns of the sea,” converge on coastal cliffs during this period for their annual nesting rituals. Witness these skilled aviators as they return to land, showcasing their vibrant beaks and distinctive markings. The coastal cliffs transform into bustling colonies, revealing the intricate social dynamics and behaviours of these charismatic birds.
As expert navigators of both air and water, Pu ffi ns exhibit remarkable agility during their time on land. The courtship displays, mate selection rituals, and diligent care of their Puff lings provide a unique window into their breeding season activities. Capture the comical expressions, vibrant plumage, and tender interactions as puffins navigate the cliffs with precision and grace.
Our Puffin Photography Tour offers an immersive experience, allowing photographers to seize moments that tell the captivating story of these seabirds during their short but significant sojourn on land.

Accommodation:

There are many accommodation options that are located close to the Puffin viewing site. Contact us for more information and recommendations.

Transportation

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the town and Pu ffi n Viewing site. Here’s why we opt for individual travel arrangements:
Cramming all of our tripods, backpacks, and potentially damp clothing into a shared vehicle is no fun! Traveling independently allows you the flexibility to tailor your schedule according to your energy levels or personal needs without impacting the group dynamic.
With the luxury of your own vehicle, you won’t need to disassemble your camera gear after each shoot. Keep your equipment ready for action, ensuring more time for capturing incredible moments in the field.
Having your own transportation opens up opportunities to explore the surrounding area during your free time. Discover the local dining scene or extend your stay to visit nearby destinations. Your vehicle provides the freedom to make the most of your experience beyond the workshop hours.

Daily Schedule and Meals

Before the workshop begins you will receive a personalized video from either Jared or Travis. They will outline what to expect from the workshop, what to bring, and the overall learning objectives.
The workshops will begin early in the morning when we have the best lighting conditions and the birds are most active. We will break in the afternoon to get lunch and then shoot again in the evenings until the light has disappeared.
Breakfast
We would prefer if everyone meet at the hotel Jared and Travis are staying at for breakfast. This will allow us to give a short presentation on learning objectives and answer any questions you may have before setting out.
When the morning light starts to turn into harsh midday light, we will break for lunch. Depending on the light of the day we can opt to have a quick lunch or a site down. For example, on an overcast day we may want to take a quick lunch to take advantage of the lighting conditions but on a bright sunny day we may all prefer to do a sit down lunch
We will plan to have dinners close to where we will do our evening editing workshop. We can all eat together and then gather at the workshop location afterwords to begin.
